Friday Freebie: Retro Roguelike ScourgeBringer Free on Epic This Week

We have a fun Friday Freebie for you this week, ScourgeBringer is a slick looking action platformer roguelike from Flying Oak Games, and it's currently free on the Epic Game Store.

Fluid Combat That Feels Like Magic

ScourgeBringer - Boss Fight

At its core, ScourgeBringer nails the holy trinity of roguelites: movement, combat, and procedural chaos. Combat is a frantic ballet of slashes, shots, and dashes. It's all offense and no defense in this one. Eurogamer famously dubbed it "Dead Cells meets Celeste" due to its super-fluid platforming where you wall-jump, air-dash, and chain attacks mid-flight, rarely touching the ground.

Weapons upgrade per run with melee blades for close-quarters frenzy, guns for ranged attacks, and special abilities like homing shots or multi-jumps that keep things fresh. Enemies swarm in hordes, projectiles fill the screen, and bosses demand you learn their patterns. It's tough, but rewarding when you get that perfect run going.

The procedurally generated biomes shift from fleshy caverns to mechanical hellscapes, and each one will surprise you in new and different ways. You can collect mementos from fallen explorers to unlock lore and secrets, so even your runs that end in a death can still bring some progress. Each run clocks in between 20-45 minutes, so it's great to pick up and play when you have a little downtime.

You can get a feel for all this action, and a look at some story beats, in the trailer below. Check it out and then go hit up the Epic Game Store to add ScourgeBringer to your library for free. Happy Freebie Friday!

ScourgeBringer is available on PC and Mac, as well as Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. It's usually $16.99, but currently free on the Epic Games Store
