All the Biggest Announcements from Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025

Geoff didn't disappoint us at Opening Night Live this year, delivering a two-hour spectacle of trailers, gameplay reveals, and surprises that set the stage for an exciting slate of upcoming games. From long-awaited sequels to impressive new IPs, the show highlighted a great lineup of titles coming to PC and consoles. Here is our recap of the standout games that stole the show, complete with our impressions of the stream’s biggest reveals.

Hollow Knight: Silksong (Team Cherry)

The show opened with a bang as Hollow Knight: Silksong finally graced the stage with a brief but tantalizing gameplay video. And Team Cherry’s Metroidvania masterpiece looks as gorgeous as we all hoped it would be. Keighley confirmed the game is “100% releasing in 2025,” and a playable demo is available at Gamescom in the Nintendo and Xbox booths. Thankfully we won’t have to wait long for more, as Team Cherry has announced a dedicated YouTube video dropping this Thursday with further details (possibly a release date?). After years of clown-meme anticipation, this glimpse was a thrill, and I’m excited to finally see what Team Cherry has in store later this week.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (Treyarch and Raven Software)

Treyarch dropped the worldwide reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, set in a dystopian 2035 following the events of Black Ops 6. The trailer was a wild ride, featuring anti-gravity gameplay that had soldiers battling on twisted, floating highways and, wait for it, giants? There is apparently a psychological aspect to some of these levels that lets them go beyond the bounds of reality, and the visuals lean into these surreal, almost Inception-like settings across Nicaragua, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and more.

A top-down shooter zombies mode was teased, alongside the ability to play the campaign in up-to-4-player co-op! They also hinted at an “End Game” campaign mode that looks like a high-stakes horde experience. Set for release on November 14, 2025, and available day-one on Xbox Game Pass, it looks like Call of Duty is pushing boundaries with this one to try and stay ahead of Battlefield 6. Now that the dam has been broken I'm sure we will be getting a lot more info as we move closer to launch.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV (King Art Games)

Warhammer fans, rejoice! Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV was revealed with a cinematic trailer, and gameplay peak, that looks like an awesome return for this epic RTS franchise. Developed by King Art Games, makers of Iron Harvest, the game returns with four playable factions, four campaigns, and over 70 missions packed with base-building and massive battles. The trailer showcased beautifully animated units, Space Marines, Orks, and more, clashing in chaotic, large-scale conflicts. The sheer number of units on screen was jaw-dropping, reminding me why Dawn of War is a genre legend.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion (Marvelous USA)

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion brought high-octane mech action to the show with a new trailer and a demo available now on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Set for release on September 5th, this sci-fi open-world shooter lets players customize mechs to battle enemies across the land and air. The trailer highlighted explosive boss fights and sleek mech designs, making it a must-try for action fans. I haven't had a chance to try the demo yet, but I’m itching to jump in and get a feel for it. Be on the lookout for more details in the coming weeks.

Silent Hill f (Konami)

Konami’s Silent Hill f terrified the audience, or maybe just me, with a chilling new trailer. Set in 1960s Japan in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, the game follows teenage protagonist Hinako Shimizu as a malevolent force transforms her quiet town into a nightmare. The trailer showed Hinako wielding a lead pipe against grotesque creatures in foggy, wooden buildings, blending psychological horror with Japanese folklore. The visuals are stunning, and the creepy atmosphere had me on edge. This looks like an interesting evolution for the Silent Hill series, and we won't have to wait long to see how it turns out as it is set for release on September 25th, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Cronos: The New Dawn (Bloober Team)

Bloober Team gave us another look at Cronos: The New Dawn, a survival horror game hitting PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on September 5. This game first piqued my interest in the Nintendo partners direct for Switch 2, and it was great to see more of it today. The trailer showcased a haunting Polish setting where enemies don’t stay dead—they merge and evolve into grotesque new forms. Time-traveling gameplay adds a unique twist, letting players manipulate timelines to solve puzzles and survive. The action-heavy combat gave me strong Dead Space vibes, which is the kind of survival horror I enjoy the most. The trailer looked great, and the fast-approaching release date has me excited to dive in this Fall .

The Outer Worlds 2 (Obsidian Entertainment)

Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 hit us with a companions trailer highlighting the colorful crew you’ll recruit in this sci-fi RPG. The trailer stepped through a half dozen different companions and it looks like their unique abilities and personalities will make for a wild ride. This is one that I'm excited to check out when it hits PS5, PC, and Game Pass on October 29th.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 (The Chinese Room)

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 brought the gore with a trailer that felt kind-of like a vampire styled BioShock. Developed by The Chinese Room, this RPG is slated for release on October 20th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The trailer showcased bloody combat and immersive first-person exploration in a dark, supernatural world. At first, this was a game I was going to skip, but the first-person view and powers on display felt so much like BioShock that I thought it deserved a look. I'll be interested to see how this one comes together for launch.

Ghost of Yōtei (Sucker Punch)

Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, stunned with a new trailer titled 'Song of Vengeance', that really showed off the graphics power of the PS5. The trailer highlighted Atsu's quest for vengeance against the Yōtei Six, and also introduced a free co-op Legends mode coming in 2026. The visuals—sweeping landscapes, dynamic combat, and cinematic flair—left me speechless. As a fan of the original, I’m thrilled to see Sucker Punch elevate their samurai epic into the next generation. This was one of the show’s highlights, and it’s likely a day-one buy for me when it releases on October 2nd.

Resident Evil: Requiem (Capcom)

Capcom’s Resident Evil: Requiem delivered a chilling trailer focused on the backstory for its new lead character Grace Ashcroft. Seriously, this one of the best trailers of the night, it builds suspense quickly and then hits you with a gut-punch moment that left me speechless. The graphics are jaw-dropping, blending hyper-realistic visuals with Resident Evil’s signature creepy atmosphere. The trailer made me immediately connect with Grace, and I think it's a great idea to bring in a fresh protagonist. I’m already dreading (and loving) the scares to come next February.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui (Game Science)

The show closed with a world premiere from Game Science: Black Myth: Zhong Kui, a sequel to their blockbuster Black Myth: Wukong. Inspired by Chinese mythology, this action epic follows Zhong Kui, a legendary ghost hunter who commands 80,000 demons to battle evil forces. This looked like a very early reveal trailer, so no release window or gameplay, but either way this is going to be one to watch. And, it's always fun to end a show with an unexpected premiere.
