One of the first big releases of 2026 is the Feb launch of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. This full reboot of the PS1 classic blends nostalgia for the original adventure with contemporary graphic polish and quality of life improvements. And now, thanks to today's demo announcement, we won't even have to wait until February to fall in love with this new RPG. Square Enix has announced a demo for DQ VII Reimagined will release tomorrow, January 7, and all progress will carry over to the full game on release. It's like finding a Christmas present hidden behind the tree when you start taking down the decorations!
What's New in Reimagined and How to Get the Demo

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined takes the beloved original and infuses it with modern enhancements, and an incredible new art style, while preserving the soul that made it a JRPG staple. Square Enix is debuting a new visual style that is based on physical materials for all the game's surfaces. It is a great reworking on the original viewpoint and graphical style that looks like nothing else out today.
As for the demo, you can expect around 5-10 hours of content, depending on how much you explore, which should give you solid taste of the game's mechanics and story. And, progress will carry over seamlessly to the full game when it releases on February 5th, along with a special outfit for Maribel if you complete the demo before release.
The demo will be available tomorrow, January 7th, for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Just load up the store on your console to download, or hit the links below if you want to queue up the download while you're away.
