BALL x PIT Preview: Fuse Balls, Build Ballbylon, and Battle the Abyss

As October's gaming calendar heats up, indie dev Kenny Sun is gearing up to unleash BALL x PIT, his brick-breaking, ball-fusing, base-building survival roguelite that's equal parts addictive and absurd. Slated for release on October 15, 2025 for PC and Mac, as well as Xbox, PS5, and Switch, this fast-paced fantasy title invites players to rebuild from the ruins of Ballbylon, a once-great city now reduced to a yawning pit teeming with barbaric beasts and untold treasures. Armed with magic-infused projectiles, you'll batter your way deeper, fusing balls for overpowered synergies while expanding your homestead above ground.

A New Kind of Ballgame

At its core, BALL x PIT flips the script on traditional roguelites by centering gameplay around an innovative Ball Fusion system. Start with basic orbs and experiment with over 60 randomized balls to create hundreds of explosive combinations, like ricocheting fireballs that chain-react off enemies or gravity-defying spheres that pull foes into traps. As you delve into diverse realms like barren deserts, frozen caverns, and savage forests, you'll face screen-filling bosses and evolving hazards that demand quick adaptation.

But it's not all dungeon-crawling: Back at New Ballbylon, your growing base becomes a hub for over 70 unique buildings that generate resources, unlock power-ups, and automate tasks. Recruit fellow treasure hunters along the way, each with upgradable mechanics that overhaul your playstyle and you can be sure no two runs will feel the same.

The ball bouncing gameplay even extends to building your base. In a cool twist, you bounce your characters around the base to collect resources each day. If you don't line up your crew just right, you might not harvest everything that was available. I love this addition because you have to think about how your character will reflect off of each new building you place.

Short Runs and Endless Fun

BALL x PIT is a brilliant blend of genres, pulling together the arcade action of block breaking with the desire to see your base expand and improve after each run. The atmosphere is fun, but strange, with a slightly dark tone that makes you wonder what you might run into next. Each run also feels different because there is so much experimentation available with different ball synergies and passive ability modifiers. I really haven't played anything else like it.
